The following tool will profile single words, showing frequencies in the academic, fiction, spoken and news sub-corpora of the Baby BNC (British National Corpus) corpus. It also shows frequencies of word forms (if more than one) in the academic sub-corpus, gives possible academic synonyms, gives any word lists the word appears in, and lists any academic collocations using this word.
