Cohesion: Transition Signals Quiz Use transition signals appropriately

About the quiz

transitions

Transition signals, also called cohesive devices or linking words, are an important aspect of good cohesion. There are many different types, for example:

  • for example - used to give examples
  • in contrast - used to show a contrasting or opposite idea
  • first - used to show the first item in a list
  • as a result - used to show a result or effect

This quiz focuses on grammar and meaning of different transition signals. Note that transitions for comparison and contrast and cause and effect are dealt with in separate quizzes.
